Democracy at Risk Series: The Right to Read Festival
A Floridians for Democracy Coalition is organizing and collaborating with other pro-democracy organizations to produce a monthly series focused on Protecting our Freedoms. Each month’s program will highlight various assaults on our freedoms. They will be livestreamed nationally and available via YouTube for future viewing.
On February 24, The Right to Read Festival will take place at the UU Congregation of Venice with concurrent locations available via Zoom. The festival will take place from 10am to 4pm. The virtual program will be from 11am to 3:30pm. Livestream the event here.
The event will feature national and local authors, speakers, entertainment, vendors and activities for children. The line-up of speakers include:
- 11:00am James Abraham, Port Charlotte publisher and writer
- 12 Noon Kent Oliver, Nashville Freedom to Read Foundation
- 1:15 pm Rob Sanders, Tampa renowned author of LGBTQIA+ books
- 2:45 pm Michael Scanlan, teacher, author, and theatre director
