Democracy Watch – How FGCU Trains Future Journalists to Protect Democracy

Hear about the important investment Florida Gulf Coast University is providing to tomorrow’s journalists through the student organization, Democracy Watch. This organization provides training in how to be proficient in the field of public affairs journalism. Public affairs journalism is critical as an electorate informed on civic issues is a core ingredient to an effective democracy.

In addition to the program providing an overview of best practices in public affairs journalism, Dayna Harpster, Democracy Watch FGCU faculty advisor, and graduates of FGCU will share how Democracy Watch’s internship experiences at Florida Gulf Coast University have led to rewarding professional careers in journalism.
