Hear Our Voices

• Please safeguard life-saving vaccines, keeping them available and accessible.

• Please vote to retain the mandate that children attending Florida public schools be vaccinated against such infectious diseases as diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

• Routine immunizations have effectively eliminated infectious diseases and prevented hundreds of thousands of families the grief of losing loved ones to a preventable illness.

• Don’t let our society return to those years of grief and loss. Vaccines have been proven effective, saving millions of lives. Young families today are not aware that, before vaccines, smallpox, measles, diphtheria, typhoid, and whooping cough were leading causes of death. For those who survived, polio could result in permanent paralysis, while measles could lead to pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling), or intellectual and physical disabilities, as well as leaving children vulnerable to various infections for years.

• Please vote to repeal Senate Bill 1718, which undermines the basic rights of immigrants. This law allows state and local law enforcement to round up immigrants -- some allegedly undocumented, but some who are citizens or authorized to be in the country – and send them to detention centers for deportation without due process. The negative impact erodes trust between communities and law enforcement.

• Please protect refugees fleeing mortal dangers like violence and persecution. Fleeing life-threatening conditions and seeking asylum in another country is an international human right. I am holding you accountable for upholding national and international asylum laws.

Please oppose any effort to redraw legislative and congressional districts outside the regular cycle – that is, before 2030.

I strongly urge you to reject any attempt to deviate from the longstanding, constitutionally grounded decennial Census and redistricting cycle. A mid-decade effort would not only be an unprecedented disruption to established democratic norms, but it would also undermine the stability of our electoral system and intensify voter disenfranchisement, particularly among communities of color, eligible immigrants, young people, and rural residents.

Partisan gerrymandering undermines the foundational principles of fair representation and violates the Fair District requirements that Floridians overwhelmingly voted to add to our state constitution.
